Vagary

Vagary

Wednesday, July 15 @ 5:00PMWed, Jul 15 @ 5:00PM

MQ Stage & Lounge - No Cover!, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Vagary (def. a whimsical idea), is primarily a musical partnership between Steve Pitkin and Michael Tanksley. Having played in other bands, then together in the classic rock cover band Bucula 2013-2018, the urge to develop original music Steve had gradually developed led to acoustic arrangements between them. The love of deeper cuts by artists like Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell, Zeppelin and Rush, among others, can be heard in the songwriting. Elements like fretless bass by Michael add our own sound to beloved covers, and have been essential to the original music. Adding drums periodically beginning in 2020, Vagary was able to expand its repertoire and record in 2023, while consistently returning to acoustic arrangements and performances as well. Since 2024, Derek Wiebe has brought another level on drums and helped us to add amazing and unique covers while bringing out a deeper interpretation of our original music.

Nate Wuethrich Trio

Thursday, July 16 @ 5:00PMThu, Jul 16 @ 5:00PM

MQ Stage & Lounge - No Cover!, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Nate is a multi faceted Seattle based musician who specializes in Drum Set performance. He has been playing the drums since the age of 5, and recently completed a degree in music from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. Nate is a composer, educator, and a band leader at the forefront. While he is constantly working on finding his sound, he is highly influenced by straight ahead jazz (particularly post bop), and also takes influence from Hiphop/R&B, Funk, and Neo Soul.

As a teenager he was heavily involved in the local Seattle Hip-hop scene; participating in local organizations/programs such as The Residency, and MoPop’s SoundOff. He still has ties and connections to the local scene and continues to produce music for local artists. During the Covid-19 pandemic he had the opportunity to work as a recording engineer at the late Fib Studios in Seattle before attending the University of Oregon.

Nate was exposed to Jazz music from a very young age, and later fell back in love with the music in High School/College. He feels a deep connection to the music and wishes to express that in his playing.

Tenderpile’s Smile Aisle is a jazz combo out of Bellingham led by guitarist Ben Meyer. The concept of this project is to play music that is melodic and easy to listen to, while also being subtly complex and technical, in a configuration suited for the most intimate spaces. Focusing on the music of the Pat Metheny Group, Tenderpile's Smile Aisle aims to showcase this selection of instrumental deep cuts as a key ingredient for a perfectly relaxed and social environment.
